Granada Huntley East Chain Teacher Honored as Outstanding Educator

Five area educators were recognized Wednesday as regional honorees in the WEM Foundation’s 2010 Outstanding Educator Awards Program. Tony Stadler from Granada Huntley East Chain High School; Robert Ihrig, Eric Koser and Tania Lyon from Mankato West High School; and Susan O’Neill from GFW High School were honored by South Central Service Cooperative in partnership with the Center for Academic Excellence and the WEM Foundation.

Each regional honoree received a trophy, $1,000 check and one-year membership to the Center for Academic Excellence.

Stadler was awarded an Ethics in Education award, which honors exemplary educators who embody ethical behavior and promote ethical development for students through classroom or school activities, policies or curriculum.

Stadler has been teaching for 17 years. He is currently the dean of students at GHEC High School and teaches industrial technology to students in grades 7-12. Topics covered in his classroom include building trades, welding, small engines, manufacturing and electricity. He is also the head golf coach. Stadler is responsible for the discipline for grades 7-12. He employs a restorative justice approach to this responsibility and strives to instill a greater sense of community in his students.

The WEM Outstanding Educator Awards program was created by the WEM Foundation and is administered by the Center for Academic Excellence in partnership with The Minnesota Service Cooperatives (MSC). The WEM Foundation supports teachers and their important role in helping all children achieve academically. The awards program, now in its 12th year, has helped recognize education’s often "unsung heroes," educators who meet the challenges and opportunities of teaching in a variety of settings.
